Graveside Services with Military Honors for MAJ, Billy Gene Thornton, Ret. of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be private.


Billy passed away April 19, 2012, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 80. He was born August 23, 1931, in Mansfield, Arkansas, the son of Theopolis and Azzie Marsh Thornton. He married Barbara Thornton on October 19, 1948, at San Bernardino, California. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran serving two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star. Billy lived in Mountain Home, Arkansas since 1992 moving from Long Beach, California. He enjoyed traveling and woodworking.


Billy is survived by his wife, Barbara Thornton; son, Billy (Charlene) Thornton of Cocoa, FL; two daughters, Janet Kulwin of Fullerton, CA and Cynthia (David) Thornton-Kosanke of Murray, UT; two grandchildren, Billy Thornton II and Phillip (Kristin) Thornton; one step-grandchild, John Lynch; two great-grandchildren, Kylia and Caleb Thornton and two step-great-grandchildren, Ayden and Logan Lynch.


He was preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.


Burial will be in the Fayetteville National Cemetery, Fayetteville, Arkansas.


Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House.
