Charles Robert "Bob" Coates, Jr.

Charles Robert Coates, Jr. "Bob", age 83, passed away quietly on March 10, 2016, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Born on October 27, 1932, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Bob was the first of three children born to Charlie and Marjorie Coates.

Bob graduated from Indianapolis High School Warren Central in 1950, and graduated from Purdue University in 1954, with an aeronautical engineering degree. He worked in California as a civil engineer at Vandenberg Air Force Base for ten years and helped in the early development of the USA missile program.

With the company TRW, Bob worked in Huston Texas helping with the Apollo Program leading to moon landings in the summer of 1969. After leaving the aerospace industry in 1973, he and his wife, Nora became teachers in the Mountain Home, Arkansas school district. He taught math and computer science at the junior high and high school. After retirement, Bob was an avid backpacker and hiker covering 100's of miles of trails in the U.S. parks and national forest areas.

Bob Coates is survived by his sister, Nancy Izzard in Georgia; his son, Tim Coates and daughter, Sally Coates both in California; daughter, Jenny in Washington; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be private.
