Al Gillett died Saturday, June 2, 2007 at his residence. He was 93. Alfred George Gillett was born February 2, 1914 at Westgate, Iowa to Marquis and Clara Knief Gillett He married Rosella Burke on October 20, 1938 at Waterloo, Iowa. Al was a baker at Bishops Cafeteria and during World War II he served in the Merchant Marines. Although he and Rose had no children, they devoted a good deal of their lives caring for children less fortunate. They spent time with the State Training School for Boys in Eldora, Iowa and later at the Memphis Boys Town in Tennessee. At Boys Town, they were house parents and cared for up to eleven boys at a time. They left in 1973 to retire in Mountain Home. Al was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Alley White American Legion post 52 in Mountain Home. Survivors: wife Rose of Mountain Home and one sister; Ida Mae Snyder of Waterloo, Iowa. Preceded in Death by: his parents and one brother Funeral: A Memorial Service for Alfred G.
