Alice M Westergaard

February 4, 1945 — February 4, 2023

Alice Westergaard of Clarkridge, Arkansas, passed away on February 4, 2023, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, at the age of 78. She was born February 4, 1945, in Evanston, Illinois, the daughter of Fredrick and Emily Paulsen Lange. She married Ronald A. Westergaard on April 25, 1964, in Mundelein, Illinois.
Alice was a 1963 graduate of Mundelein High School. She lived in Wauconda, Illinois from 1965 to 1996, raising her two children. In 1979 she graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from the College of Lake County. She worked as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) for decades, primarily employed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Condell Memorial Hospital in Libertyville, Illinois. When she moved to Arizona in 2001, she was a CCRN in the ICU Cardiac Unit at Mayo Clinic, Phoenix. There her career was taken to new heights as she became an instructor and preceptor to newly graduated nursing students. In 2005, she moved to Clarkridge, Arkansas, where she worked as a CCRN in ICU at Baxter Regional Medical Center for 13 years. Alice was highly respected by her co-workers and fellow nurses throughout her career as a very knowledgeable, compassionate, loyal, loving person, which was complimented by her quick wit and outrageous sense of humor. Her children and grandchildren admired her for all of these personal attributes.
Alice had many talents and gifts beyond her aptitude as a nurse. She had a passion for music and was a skilled pianist, organist, and singer. She was a member of Harmony Incorporated (HI), a women’s acapella (barbershop four-part harmony) international singing organization, since 1980. Within the chapter level of HI, she was an accomplished director with the Do-Re-Mi’s and singer with the 20 time HI International Chorus Champions, the Village Vocal Chords, with whom she won many championships in the 1990s. Alice’s strong faith in God was the center of her essence, and served the Lord as a long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Wauconda, IL, where she was a Sunday school teacher, youth choir director, and organist. She was a member of Living Water Lutheran Church in Arizona, and upon moving to Arkansas became a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, and for the past few years was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Mountain Home. Alice was very family focused and in her free time enjoyed attending her children’s band concerts, sporting events, playing board games, and fostering their love of music and faith in God. Alice was very creative beyond her musical talents, as she was an avid seamstress, crafter, pet owner, and loved reading non-fiction books about history, especially the Civil War, and fictional murder mysteries. Alice was a very independent and strong woman who inspired her children to follow in her footsteps to pursue their educational dreams, the love of music, athletics, and pets, and spiritual journey and faith in God.
Alice is survived by her husband, Ronald A. Westergaard of Clarkridge, AR; son Eric Andrew (Terry Lynn) Westergaard of Maple Park, IL; daughter Deborah Suzanne (Frank) Genovese of Woodridge, IL; grandchildren, Brandon, Elizabeth (Andrew), Emily, Jack, Giovani, and Tomas; great-granddaughter, Charlotte; sister, Lola Nosker, brother, Fred (Lynn) Lange; and sister, Nancy Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law, H. Dean Nosker.
A funeral service for Alice will be held at a later date at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Mountain Home, AR.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of North Central Arkansas, 2656 AR-201, Mountain Home, AR, 72653.
