Barbara Nix

November 12, 1942 — February 13, 2010

Barbara Nix, 67 went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 13, 2010. She was at home with her family by her side in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

A visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Kirby and Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 20, 2010, following a visitation beginning at 10:00 am, at Parker Funeral Home in Bruce, Mississippi. Burial will be in the Bruce Cemetery.

She was born November 12, 1942, in Bruce to Marvin and Allie Costin. Her father served in WWII. Her mother was a registered nurse before retiring. Barbara was married to her high school sweetheart and husband of fifty years, Mike Nix. They moved to Texarkana, Arkansas where their seven children were born. They later relocated to Mountain Home, Arkansas; their home for the past 32 years.

Barbara was a homemaker during her children?s early years at home. Before her illness, she worked for Burnett-Croom-Lincoln-Paden Clinic of Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Her interests included taking care of her family, sewing, cooking, reading, and gardening. As a young mother, she enjoyed playing the piano, painting, singing in the church choir, and actively serving in WMU and PTA.

Her family wrote: ?Momma always put the needs of her family above her own. This was her absolute joy. She and daddy enjoyed traveling together after raising their children. Her wisdom and knowledge of God?s Word, love, compassion, and gracious southern hospitality will be missed by her family and friends.?

She was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Mrs. Nix is survived by her husband, George Michael Nix; her children Susan Nix Isom and husband Mike Isom of Conway, Sondra Nix Hoffmann of Mountain Home, Paula Nix of Jonesboro, Shane Nix and wife Angi Nix of Flippin, Paige Nix Benedict and husband Phillip Benedict of Mountain Home, Shanna Nix of Little Rock; her mother and step-father, Allie and Arnold Gulledge of Bruce, Mississippi; a brother Marvin Lee Costin and family of Big Creek, Mississippi; she was Grandmomma to 16 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Earnest Costin; a son, Jeffrey Michael Nix who went to be the Lord at the age of 12.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Hospice of the Ozarks.

Arrangements are by Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
