Basil Guthery Williams

Basil Guthery Williams of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away September 22, 2024, in Mountain Home at the age of 76. He was born November 3, 1947, in Faunsdale, Alabama. Basil was the youngest of 7 boys and 1 girl born to Rious Angle and Bessie Guthrie Williams. Basil was a U.S. Navy veteran. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Basil completed cosmetology college, training as a barber and hairdresser, but he worked in that profession only for about a year.

Basil found his career when he was hired to work in a nuclear plant. He trained in radiation protection and worked as a Radiological (HP) Technician for over 35 years. He married Aileen Kembriel. Basil and Aileen made their home in Mountain Home, but the pair traveled to different states working nuclear power plant outages. In 2019, Basil and Aileen moved to Sycamore Springs Assisted Living. 

Basil enjoyed karaoke, gun and coin collecting, and watching the New England Patriots and Alabama Football teams. He loved his family dearly, and their memories of his smile, sense of humor, and kindness will be cherished.

Basil is survived by his wife, Aileen Williams of Mountain Home, AR; brother, Walter Williams; sister, Rose Marie "Patsy" Hughes of Steens, MS; three step-daughters, Jennifer, Terri, and Tammy; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by five brothers, Joe, Dudley, Johnnie, Norman, and Ralph. 

A Funeral Service for Basil will be 11:00 am, Monday, October 7, 2024, at the Alabama Veterans Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
