He died Saturday, December 11, 2010 in Mountain Home at the age of 83. Bernard was born April 1, 1927 in Chicago, IL, the son of Thorvald and Fannie Helgesen. He married Patricia Vannella and worked as a Conductor for Milwaukee Road Railroad. Bernard was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Bernard lived in Cotter, Arkansas since 1986 moving from Elgin, IL. He was a member of American Legion, VFW, Cessna 170 Association and was a private pilot for over 60 years.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Patricia Helgesen of Cotter, 4 sons, Mitchell Helgesen of Newton, NC, Thomas Helgesen of Live Oak, FL, Darryl (Wendi) Helgesen of Winston-Salem, NC and Trygg (Susan) Helgesen of Winston-Salem, NC, 2 grandsons, Michael Helgesen and Shawn Helgesen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Harlan Helgesen, 1 brother and 3 sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House.
