Betty Jo "Mrs. A" Atkinson, 86, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away March 5, 2022. She was born June 29, 1935, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of Fortson and Aline Braswell Almand. She married Charles Atkinson on June 6, 1956, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She attended Louisiana Technical College and received her Master's Degree in education from Louisiana State University. She was a teacher in Shreveport, Louisiana from the late 1950's, until she moved to Mountain Home in 1975. She taught at the Mountain Home Public Schools until she retired in 2001. She was a Charter Member of the Mountain Home Baptist Church, and the Twin Lakes Literacy Council. She enjoyed volunteering at the Mountain Home Public Schools, Baxter Regional Medical Center, and Arkansas State University.
Betty is survived by her son, Bill (Sherry) Atkinson of Missouri City, TX; two daughters, Cindi (Stan) Davenport of Yellville, AR, and Lynn (Phil) Ballard of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Cody (Vanessa Clark) Davenport, Danielle Davenport, Hollye (Jesse) Garcia, Corye Ballard, and Erin Atkinson; and five great-grandchildren, Shya, Paisley, Bryn, Autumn, and Andie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, William Almand, Jr.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from 1:00 pm until service time, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Bill Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas, with Stan Davenport, Phil Ballard, Cody Davenport, Greg Almand, and Mark Hollingsworth as pallbearers.
