Calvin Bourland

December 13, 1919 — November 10, 2010

Calvin Ansel Bourland, age 90, passed on to join his beloved wife Peggy, on November 10, 2010. Born in El Dorado, Illinois, on December 10, 1919, he was the 5th child born to Calvin Elmer and Lula Hyde Bourland. His parents, brothers and sisters, and his loving son, Dennis, predeceased him. Cal never met a stranger and his zest for life was infectious. He loved restoring cars, cards, practical jokes, breakfast club, county music and the many family members and friends that loved him. For his service during WWII, Cal was awarded the Purple Heart - an honor for his courage and dedication to his country in the face of mortal danger. Before serving his country, Cal married Venita Layne Bansemer (who survives). They became parents to three children. After the war he met the love of his life, Margarethe ?Peggy? Frost whom he loved selflessly for the remainder of his life. The couple married on June 5, 1952, and spent their working years in Waukegan, Illinois. They retired to Mountain Home, Arkansas in 1980. Cal spent the thirty years post-retirement making people smile. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Sherrie and son-in-law, Charles Chaney, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Jeanne Lee Sherman of Jacksonville, Fl. Grandchildren include Alex Bourland; Tahnee Bourland Lanthrop, (Matt) ; Bob Kramer; and Laura Kramer McReynolds (Ralph), and great-grandchildren Liam and James McReynolds. He is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, many of whom he was able to see during an October 2010 reunion in Anna, Illinois. Additionally Cal is survived by many loving friends including ?special family? Arcele and Wayne Reiman.

Visitation is being held at Kirby Family Funeral Home on Monday, November 15th, 5-8pm. His Celebration of Life will be held at East Side Baptist Church at 10:00am on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. Graveside services will follow.
