Catherine Jean Sawyer, 62, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, peacefully passed away Friday July 28, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Catherine loved life and all it could offer. She met her husband, Clint, at the local gym and discovered they were neighbors. Physical fitness was something they both really loved as well as traveling and enjoying the finer things in life.
Catherine also enjoyed crafting, card making, all things sparkly, modeling in fashion shows, volunteering, entertaining friends with favorite recipes; but most of all, creating memories with special friends was a prized treasure she absolutely loved. Catherine also enjoyed the great outdoors and discovering new places with kayaking being her favorite way to spend time in nature.
Family was most important to Catherine. She was known as “Beach Nana” to her precious grandchildren who were the apple of her eye and the light that made her shine.
Catherine was instrumental in the community. She was an original founding member of Baxter Co. Library and retired as the Library Foundation Coordinator. She was a member of First Methodist Church and an ordained Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Mountain Home. She was also one of the original board members to her community HOA. During her cancer journey, Catherine gave so unselfishly of her time contributing to the community by serving as board member to the Peitz Cancer Support House and organizing many charitable events throughout the years that supported others with similar journeys. She facilitated support groups that focused on health, wellness and happiness including the well-being of the Earth for a healthier environment to thrive in.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Lois Filkins Crissinger; father, Richard Filkins; brother, Mark Filkins; step-daughter, Kathy Sawyer; and granddaughter, Dana Verhoeven.
Catherine is survived by her husband, William Clint Sawyer III of Mountain Home, AR; her sons, Rick (Kendra) Verhoeven of Twin Falls, ID and Randy (Shantel) Verhoeven of Kingman, AZ; brother, Joe (Jody) Filkins of Norco, CA; sister, Nancie (John) Fontaine of Franklin, TN; step-son, Dale Sawyer (Christy) of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catherine Sawyer Memorial Fund, Peitz Cancer Support House, 624 Hospital Dr. Mountain Home, AR. 72653.
