Retired Executive Chef, Charles Fargo, born April 7th, 1931, in Budapest, Hungary, finished his earthly journey on November 1st, 2012. He was 81. Preceding him in death are his mother, father, sisters and brothers, during World War II. Orphaned and uprooted from his native land at the age of 13, he resided In some refuge camps and was finally hired by Transatlantic Shipping Line. He sailed around the world a several times and lived in Australia too!! He arrived in the US in 1956. His first job was working at the Evanston Golf Club, Skokie, IL; and with hard work and lots of volunteerism, he became an Executive Chef! Some of his proudest accomplishments include helping to form the Student Exchange Program at Elgin Community College, being awarded chef of the Year in 2005 by the ACF Chicago Chefs Of Cuisine Assn, Inc. and an active member of the American Culinary Federation for over 30 years. He was an Executive chef of numerous Country Clubs in the Northern suburbs of Chicago and volunteered most Thanksgivings at LaRabida Children's Hospital. He always said, ?When you do some volunteer work, it will make you feel good about yourself!? Semi retired, he helped his friends at Consumers Packing Company and loved them all. Charles is survived by his two daughters, Liz Johnston and her husband Dick of Flippin, AR, and daughter, Mary Edwards of Jordan, AR; grandchildren, Erik Edwards of Jonesboro, AR, Eden Edwards of Mountain Home, AR, Charles Travis Tipton of Flippin, AR, Rachel Higgins and husband, Casey of Woodland, CO, and one great-grandchild Vivian Higgins. He was one of the kindest men that ever walked the earth. Always putting others first before himself. Larger then live! A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
