Charles E. (Shorty) Rhoden Sr., 81 years old joined his wife Joan, and the Lord on February 23rd, 2011. Charles had retired to Flippin, Arkansas coming from Florida with his wife of 58 years Joan M. Rhoden. Charles was born in Maclenny, Florida and raised in Boynton Beach, Florida. There, he met and later married Joan, his high school sweetheart, in September of 1951. His life followed many varied career paths culminating as a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service.
He is survived by his elder brother Thomas Rhoden of Cresent City, Florida, four sons, Charles E. (Bud) Rhoden Jr. and his wife Sandy of Manitowoc, Wisconson, Marvin L. (Mick) Rhoden and his wife Chris of Gainesville, Florida, William L. (Skip) Rhoden and his wife Jennie of Springfield, Missouri, and Robert B. (Bob) Rhoden and his wife Teresa of Flippin. He was blessed to have 19 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Gail Rhoden, his parents Lloyd and Grace Rhoden, his elder sister Nellie Mae Cardin, his younger brother James Rhoden, and of course, the love of his life, his wife Joan.
A celebration of his life will be held at Gassville Baptist Church, Gassville, Arkansas on Monday February 28th, 2011 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, gifts, or monetary contributions, the family request that gift memorials be made to the Gassville Baptist Church building fund in Gassville, Arkansas where he was an active member. Arrangements are by Kirby & Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
