A Memorial Service for Charles C. Thom of Lakeview, Arkansas, will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 29, 2015, at Christ By The Lake Lutheran Church in Bull Shoals, AR with Pastor Sherman Gordius officiating.
Charles passed away October 19, 2015, in Lakeview, Arkansas at the age of 84. He was born April 8, 1931, in Highland Park, Illinois, the son of Lorraine Aloysius and Alma Helke Thom. Charles graduated from Highland Park High School and received his BA from Lake Forest College. Charles was a U.S. Army veteran of Korean War (SCARWAF). He worked as a sales manager in the candy and tobacco industries. He married Laverne Jenkins on August 7, 1992, at Kenosha, Wisconsin and moved to Arkansas in 1997. Charles enjoyed gardening, veteran’s volunteer work and travel. Charles was a lifetime member of the American Legion; Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and served as Chaplain for Chapter 22 of the Korean War. He was a frequent attendee of the Marion County Senior Center and a member of the Christ by the Lake Lutheran Church.
Charles is survived by his nephew, Thomas (Debbie) Herrmann of Bristol, WI; lady friend, Dean Beakley of Yellville, AR; stepsons, John (Ann) Jenkins of Archdale, NC and Bill (Morgan) Jenkins of Fredericksburg, VA; great-nephew, George Herrmann, IV and mother Maggie Herrmann of Lakeview, AR, Elijah Hermann of WI, and David Dillon of WI; great-niece, Kaitlyn Eberts of WI as well as a number of step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laverne and one sister, Louise Herrmann.
Military Honors will be provided by the Hoevel-Barnett Post #1341 VFW and the US Army.
Memorials may be made to Christ by the Lake Lutheran Church.
