A Funeral Service for Ila "Chlo" Kennedy of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 12:00 pm, Monday, December 11, 2017, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jimmie Snow officiating. Visitation will be Monday, December 11, 2017, from 11:00 am until service time, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas.
She was born Ila Chlorine Mizell in Doniphan, Missouri, on September 1, 1917 to Arthur and Verbie McCord Mizell. Growing up in Corning, Arkansas, she knew there was more to life than being a country girl. In St. Louis, Missouri, she met the love of her life, Donald Ownbey. They married in 1941 and had two children. Life threw her a curve ball, and at age 30 she put herself through beauty school. She was a beautician the rest of her life. In 1969, she married the second love of her life, Carl Kennedy. They moved to Mountain Home in 1987. She volunteered at the Gassville Nursing Center for many years. She also volunteered at the Ozark Community Home Resale Shop until age 99. Chlo passed away December 8, 2017, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 100.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, Donald Ownbey and Robert Ownbey and daughter-in-law Carolyn Ownbey.
She is survived by granddaughter, Jeannie (Lynn) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Jay (Stella Ferguson) Wooldridge and Aubyn (Erik) Friedland; great-great-grandchild, Elaina Friedland; step-daughter Gale (Tommy) Digilormo; granddaughter, Tammy (Ricky) Andrews; grandsons Tommy (Dana) and Terry Digilormo; and great-grandchildren Ashley, Leah, Chiara and Parker Digilormo.
