Clara Mae Sheley of Mountain Home, Arkansas, joined her heavenly Father on February 17, 2023, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 97. She was born February 15, 1926, in Gratiot, Wisconsin, the daughter of Gilbert and Alta Mae Clayton Schultz. She married Garth Sheley on June 22, 1946, in Rockford, Illinois and after 21 years moved to the Promise Land area in Mountain Home, Arkansas in 1967. They opened Clara's Corner and Creative Art & Sign Company which remained open over 40 years. For most of those years Clara was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club and both were members of the Promise Land Old Folks Pontoon Club and Promise Land Area Community Organization (PLACO). She wrote for the Baxter Bulletin for years, including the Promise Land News and numerous short stories. She was a huge letter writer, enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and crossword puzzles. Garth and Clara were both artists and they were very proud of all six children having artistic ability in many different forms of art.
Clara is survived by her daughters, Darcie (Joe) Didden, Doreen (Bill) Plimmer, and Colleen (Bill) Stephenson, all of Mountain Home, Arkansas; son, Steven (Marsha) Sheley of Loves Park, Illinois; 15 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Garth Arden Sheley; son, Glenn Sheley; and daughter, JoAnn Sheley; 2 sisters and 6 brothers.
A Celebration of Life for Clara will be Saturday, February 25, 2023, 1:00 PM, at the Promise Land Bible Church with Pastor Mike Brinkmeier officiating. Burial will be in the Promise Land Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks, Inc, 811 Burnett Drive, Mountain Home, Arkansas 72653.
