Sonny died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 in Mountain Home at the age of 75. Sonny was born Friday, July 22, 1932 in Gary, Indiana, son of Joel and Ila Ainsworth Fate. He married Patricia Lindquist on December 29, 1953 at Crown Point, Indiana. Sonny was a U.S. Navy veteran of Korea. Sonny owned and operated Fate Standard Service Station in Crown Point, Indiana and had other involvement in auto sales and service management. The Fates were the former owners of Panther Heights Resort in Mountain Home from 1969 until 1975. They moved back to Mountain Home after 17 years of owning and operating Quality Dry Cleaners in Stuart, Florida. Sonny enjoyed family activities including boating, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, hiking, and water skiing. He was never happier than when all his family was together - if asked how he was, he always replied "If I was any better I couldn't stand it." Survivors: Clarence Fate is survived by his wife, Patricia Fate and 4 daughters, Pamela (Bill) Bitner of Claremore, OK, Jan James (Ken) Forbus of Three Oaks, MI, Margery (Jim) Kelly of Ft. Pierce, FL, and Linda (Rick) Latting of Mountain Home, AR, 2 Sons, Joel (Mary) Fate of Bluff City, TN, and Michael (Janet) Fate of Jensen Beach, FL, 13 grandchildren, Cari (Ty) Fonte, Ben Bitner; Jessica, Frank & Sarah James; Erin and Bud Kelly; Joel, Ryan, Karley and Emma Fate; Brittany Latting and Jill Fate, 3 great-grandchildren, Ashton and Aidan Bitner, and Marcus James and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in Death by: He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister. Funeral: Memorial services for Clarence "Sonny" Fate of Mountain Home, AR, will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 22, 2008 at East Side Baptist Church, with Dr. Michael Shy, officiating. Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Mountain Home Christian Clinic.
