Craig Richardson Maurer

April 21, 1941 — February 17, 2020

Craig Richardson Maurer, 78, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, passed away February 17, 2020, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was born April 21, 1941, in New York, the son of Carl and Louise (Meeker) Maurer.

Craig was raised in Allentown, PA and was a graduate of Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, VA. Craig had a long and diverse professional life. Craig served in the U.S. Navy. Craig had a career working as a member of the press, eventually serving as a news anchor for several television stations including KDFW, WHBQ, KCRG, and WALA. He also worked in several positions during his time living in the Washington, D.C. area. He was proud to have served as the Press Secretary for the 1972 Republican National Convention working directly with many leaders of the Republican party at the time including President Nixon, Vice President Ford and Senator Bob Dole. Later, Craig moved to Dallas, TX, where he started and operated his own business developing and selling sports memorabilia. Craig also worked as a real estate salesman in the Dallas area. Craig lived in Cherokee Village since moving from Dallas, Texas, in 2016. He enjoyed playing bridge, discussing politics, watching the Rangers play, and golfing in his younger years.

Craig is survived by his children, Janene (Ric) Frietag, Steven (Tonya) Maurer, Amy (Jon) Ludwigson, Krista (Steve) Conde, Blake (Victoria) Maurer, Steven Hazlett, Chad Hazlett; thirteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Carl Maurer.

Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, in Bloomfield, Missouri, on March 2nd at 3 PM.

The family asks that any donations be directed to Wounded Warrior Project, Fischer House Foundation, The Boots Campaign or a military charity of choice.

Arrangements are by Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services - Mountain Home, Arkansas.
