Darlene Mae Mercer of Lakeview, Arkansas, passed away at her home on July 4, 2023, at the age of 95. She was born October 27, 1927, in Peck, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Violet Hallman Hampsten. Darlene was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, working in regulations. After her time in the U.S. Air Force, and after raising her children, she agreed to bake a wedding cake for a young couple which started a very successful baking business. Darlene lived in Lakeview since moving from Austin, Texas in 2017. She was a member of the Baptist church. She enjoyed gardening, reading and craft painting.
Darlene is survived by her children, Jimmy (Julie) Mercer of Midway, AR, and Sandi Mercer of Lakeview, AR; and granddog, Amber.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Eileen.
A Graveside Service for Darlene will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum Open-Air Chapel, with Reverend Hershel Conley officiating. Entombment will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum, Mountain Home, AR. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.
