A Celebration of Life for David E. Sutherland of Flippin, Arkansas, will be 11:30 am, Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Fairview Volunteer Fire Department, with friend and neighbor, Marny Soluri officiating.
David passed away March 6, 2018, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 78. He was born July 2, 1939, in Arlington, Virginia, the son of David and Katherine Hyde Sutherland. He married Maggi Crawford on November 26, 1958 in Ottawa, KS. David began his career as an aerospace engineer working as a code breaker during the Cuban Missile Crisis, he worked for Hughes Aircraft and retired from Lockheed Martin after 20 years. His passion came after retirement as the Volunteer Assistant Fire Department Chief for the Fairview Arkansas Volunteer Fire Department for 17 years. His dedication as a volunteer fire fighter helped expand the firehouse by acquiring a modern pumper truck and training many new recruits. He also enjoyed camping and boating.
David is survived by his wife, Maggi Sutherland of the home; sons, David Sutherland and Mike Sutherland of FL; daughter, Lauri Hughes of FL; brother, Don (Melody) Sutherland of MD; grandchildren, Casey, Robbie, and Shay and great-grandchild, Aubrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
