Don Elton Newman of Gamaliel, Arkansas, formerly of Holly, Michigan, passed away October 17, 2024, at his home, at the age of 91. He was born July 14, 1933, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Elton and Clara Davis Newman. He married Carol Stayton on October 6, 1956, in Holly, Michigan. Don was a U.S. Air Force veteran. After his time in the service, he worked as a heavy equipment operator, building roads and bridges. Don's work took the family all over Michigan until 1980, when the couple moved to Texas. In 2000, he retired and settled in Gamaliel, Arkansas after seeing an ad for the area in an RV catalog. Don enjoyed traveling the United States with his wife. He liked to spend time working on old cars, and had an affinity for Jeeps. Don was easy going, loving, and enjoyed living life with his family.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Carol Newman of Gamaliel, AR; daughters, Kim (Scott Nichol) Newman of Swartz Creek, MI, and Faye (Mel) Duman of Gamaliel, AR; grandchildren, Amanda Duman, Courtney Smith, Ashley Smith, and Zachary Smith; great-grandchildren, Erika Dunkin, Abram Chavez, and Abigail Chavez; and numerous family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Doris Hallett, Wayne Newman, Betty Rose, Larry Newman, Norvia Lowe, Jerry Newman, and Brenda Kerr.
Burial will be in the spring of 2025, at Hadley Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
