Celebration of Life and Elks Service for Donald Dean Elliott of Salesville, Arkansas, will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, June 25, 2010 at the funeral home.
Donald died Monday, June 21, 2010 at Good Samaritan Village, at the age of 86. He was born November 15, 1923 in Sidell, Illinois, the son of Charles and Ethel Woodard Elliott. He married Katherine "Kitty" Griffin on October 20, 1946 at Danville, Illinois and worked as a Machinist for General Motors for 32 years. Donald lived in Salesville, Arkansas since 1978 moving from Oakwood, Illinois. He was a life member of the BPO Elks and Moose. He was chairman of the UAW Local 579, Danville, IL and founder of the Retired UAW in Mountain Home. He was on the Salesville City Council for 20 years and a volunteer fireman. He was active with the Democratic Party and Precinct Committeeman. He was a member of the Vermillion County Museum Society. Donald was a Golden Gloves Boxer in his youth.
Donald is survived by his wife, Kitty, son, Phillip (Alice) Elliott of Acapulco, Mexico; daughter, Glenda (Bob) Layden of Hoopeston, IL; 4 grandchildren, Glenn Vines, Greg, Cheri and Steve Elliott; 5 great-grandchildren, Carly Vines, Steve, Michael, Austin and Brandon Elliott.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
