Funeral Services for community leader, veteran and long time Bull Shoals resident, Don Matejka will be April 19, 2012 at the Bull Shoals Kirby & Family Funeral Home. Dr. Reverend Fred Taylor will officiate. A visitation will be held from 9A.M. until time of service at 11:00. Military honors will be by the Hoevel-Barnett Post #1341 VFW of Bull Shoals, AR. Don passed away Monday surrounded by family at the age of 79. Don was born September 8, 1932, at Chicago, IL to John and Anna Manak Matejka. He married the love of his life Elaine Dickman, 53 years ago at Oaklawn, IL. Don served his country as a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War and came home to begin a life of public and community service. He was the Deputy Chief of the Oaklawn Fire Department and member of the Illinois Fire Chief?s Association. Don and Elaine moved to Bull Shoals in 1997. He was a city councilman in Bull Shoals for eleven years. Don was a member of the Hoevel-Barnett Post #1341 VFW, the Lions Club of Bull Shoals, the Mountain Home Knights of Columbus, and the Retired Fisherman?s Club. He had a great sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him. Don is survived by his wife, Elaine Matejka of Bull Shoals, AR, daughter, Pamela Warda (Leo) of Turlock, CA; son, Brett Matejka (Marcia) of Oaklawn, IL, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dick Matejka (Elaine) of Bull Shoals, AR and Bob Matejka (Lucille) of Illinois and one sister, Lucille Letkewicz of Oaklawn, IL. His parents, brother, John Matejka, and sister, Grace Cleveland preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bull Shoals Fire Department.
