Donald died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Mountain Home, at the age of 77. He was born May 7, 1934 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Wilbur Thomas and Katherine Leona Stropes Matthews. He married Betty Hoagland on October 12, 1979 at Waukegan, Illinois. Donald Matthews was a retired radarman for the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. He received a Bachelor?s Degree from Northwestern University. Donald lived in Mountain Home, AR since 1987 moving from Illinois. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 3246, Elks and Moose Lodge #1951 all of Mountain Home. He sang in the barbershop chorus and quartets.
Donald is survived by his wife, Betty of Mountain Home, 8 children, including, Cathy (Ray) Scharff of Mountain Home, AR,David, Derrick, Damon, Daton and Donna Matthews 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, Terry Matthews and 1 sister, Shirley (Merle) Gayman both of Davenport, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House.
