Funeral Services for Donald Jay Melvey of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Mr. Brian Orchard officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home. Donald died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Baxter Regional Medical Center, at the age of 89. He was born December 7, 1921 in Fargo, ND, the son of Jay and Ruth Daly Melvey. He married Lillian Ohnstad on October 8, 1945 at Seattle, Washington. He was a General Manager for a Ford Motor Company Dealership. Donald was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He lived in Mountain Home, Arkansas for 18 years, moving from Arcadia, CA. Donald Melvey is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lillian Melvey, 2 daughters; Cheryl (Keith) Schroeder, of Pasadena, CA; Michelle (David) Huyink of Shoreview, MN, son, Dale (Lynn) Melvey of Glendora, CA; brother, Glenn (Phyllis) Melvey of Fargo, ND; sister, June (Bud) Kiefer of Livingston, MT; 12 grandchildren; Branden (Gina) Schroeder, Kimberly (James) Johnson, Bradley (Kim) Kessel, Kristie Kessel, Elizabeth (J.C.) Bolanos, Amy Huyink and fiancé Aaron Flatten, Rebekah Huyink, Michael Huyink, Garrett, Deanna, Laurel, and Kevin Melvey, 5 great-grandchildren; Cameron, Rachel and Drew Kessel, Luke and Julia Schroeder. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Audrey Thun. Entombment will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Mausoleum with David Huyink, Branden Schroeder, Michael Huyink, Amy Huyink, Bradley Kessel, Rebekah Huyink, Kristie Kessel, and Elizabeth Bolanos as pallbearers.
