Donald Sturms

April 13, 1935 — May 5, 2023

Donald L Sturms, 88, formerly of Blue Grass, Iowa, passed away at his home in Mountain Home, Arkansas, after a brief illness. Per his wishes, cremation will take place with no services. A small gathering will take place at a later date in Blue Grass, IA.

Don was born in Annawan, Illinois on May 5, 1935 to Hilton and Frieda (Whittington) Sturms. He served in the U.S. Airforce as an Air Traffic Controller in Germany, which led him to the Control Tower at Midway Airport in Chicago after his discharge. Following his military service and Control Tower days, he went on to use his carpentry skills at Ferkel Construction in Rock Island, IL. He then worked as the Project Coordinator for Metromedia until his retirement. After his retirement he enjoyed fishing (no matter how many times our lines got tangled in the trees), camping, and tinkering in his shed. He was VP of the Rea Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Member of Ozark Ridge Runner RV Club, and Family Motor Coach Association. He was also a proud member of the VFW and Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife Joyce Strums of Mountain Home, AR; children, Duane (Nedra) Isenberg of NY, Sharon (Dave) Jungjohan Bettendorf, Judith (Mike) Negus, of TN, Donna (Rick) Porter, Blue Grass, Michael Chada of Bolingbrook, IL; grandchildren, Kevin Butler of TN, Keith Henning of IA, Otto (Anna) Isenberg of NY, Nicole (Marty) Talbot of Blue Grass, IA, Amanda Negus of TX, Kira Isenberg of NY, Austin (Courtney) Porter of Rock Island, IL, Allyson (Nate) Lewis, LeClaire, Dylan Jungjohann, Davenport, Kimberly Negus of TN; eight great-grandchildren and one on his way; Joanne Sturms of WI; and sister-in-law Millie Sturms of Davenport, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, family members, Jerry Sturms, Violet Deitz Litchford, Sally Sturms Grant.

To all those that think of him,
Be happy as he goes out to sea
If others wonder why he’s missin’,
Just let them know he’s gone fishin’
