Donnie Gordon Carter of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away on September 7, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on November 15, 1951, in Nimmons, Arkansas, he was the son of Reo and Lorene Bynum Carter. Donnie served his country as a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War. He married Brenda Banning on November 9, 1974, in Rector, Arkansas. In 1991, he founded Plaza Citgo Service, a full service gas station in the plaza shopping center, and then transitioned it to Carter and Sons Service Center in Mountain Home. Over the next several years, he grew his business by purchasing and establishing several more businesses.
In 2003, he retired to Bakersfield, Missouri, and then in 2018, Donnie and Brenda moved back to Mountain Home from Bakersfield, Missouri. He was an active member of the Christian Church of Mountain Home and the American Legion Post #52, where he found community and camaraderie. Known for his love of the outdoors, Donnie enjoyed fishing and hunting, hobbies that brought him joy and relaxation throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Carter of Mountain Home, AR; two sons, Jason (Salina) Carter and Daniel Carter; three grandchildren, Kegan (Kristen) Carter, Kerrigan (Zac) Callahan, and Brelyn Carter; and three great-grandchildren, Addisyn, Maverick, and Emerson. Donnie is also survived by his siblings, Bobby Carter, Patsy (Calvin) Merrell, Gary (Judy) Carter, Roger Carter, Tony (Angie) Carter, and Lucky (Shyla) Carter and his aunt, Dorothy Strickland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reo and Lorene Carter, and his siblings Clifton, Billy, Nicky, and Ricky Carter.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kirby & Family Funeral Home. A Funeral Service in honor of Donnie will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Christian Church of Mountain Home, with Cliff Carter and Pastor Eric Dwyer officiating. He will be laid to rest at Hawkins Ridge Cemetery in Bakersfield, Missouri, with Military Honors provided by the Alley-White American Legion Post #52 and the United States Army Honor Guards.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Christian Church of Mountain Home, located at 1365 Eastside Center Court, Mountain Home, AR 72653.
