Doris E. Griffin, a long time resident of Bull Shoals, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012, at her residence. Doris was 92. A Gathering of Friends will be Thursday May 31, 2012, from 5-7PM at the Kirby and Family Funeral Home in Bull Shoals, Arkansas. A Memorial for Doris will be held during regular Sunday services June 3, 2012, at the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church. Doris was born January 12, 1920, in Osceola, Iowa to White and Wilma Jemison Kirk. Doris married Wallace Yolo Griffin January 11, 1941, in Mercer, MO. Doris and Wallace moved to Bull Shoals in 1957 and quickly became active in the community. Doris was the Bull Shoals United States Post Master for twenty five years retiring in 1986. August 29, 1984 was proclaimed ?Doris Griffin Day? by the Mayor of Bull Shoals. Doris was instrumental in bringing the Book Mobile to Bull Shoals. She was a charter member of the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church and the Bull Shoals Historical Society. She was also a member of Hoevel-Barnett Post 1341 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Doris is survived by son, Mickey Griffin (Pat) of Flippin, AR; daughter, Nancy Castillo (Mike) of San Antonio, TX; sister, Lois Barnett (Ralph) of Tulsa, OK; three grandchildren, Michelle Rogers (Trent) of Wallawalla, WA; Amy Walker (Arpad) of Eugene, OR; Melanie Castillo of San Antonio, TX; two great-grandchildren, Emma & Grayson Rogers and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, brother, Carrol Kirk, son, Terry Griffin and grand-son, Greg Griffin. Memorials may be made to the Bull Shoals United Methodist Church.
