Doris Thilmont

August 20, 1926 — October 18, 2005

Doris Elta Thilmont was born August 20, 1926 in Wardell, Missouri. She was the daughter of Andrew McCloud and Neva Clifton Moore. She married Gordon L. Thilmont on July 24, 1980 in Washburn, Wisconsin. Mrs. Thilmont served as a Private First Class in the Women's Army Corps during World War II. She was a chef with the Girl Scouts and has been a cheerful and caring member of the Mountain Home, Arkansas community for more than fifteen years. She found time to be a mentor to many friends; from those in high places to those in the most humble of circumstances. Doris was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and was also instrumental in the establishment of a new Hospice facility. Doris was a lifetime member of VFW and the VFW Lady's Auxiliary. She is a past member of Twin Lakes Play House. She co-starred in Steel Magnolias, and during the war, she was a singer and performer with many of Hollywood's stars in the USO. Doris was a generous contributor to many worthy causes and will be greatly missed. She leaves behind an extended family of those who, while not directly related, called her "Mom". She was a friend to Bill W. Doris Elta Thilmont passed away at Baxter Regional Medical Center on October 18, 2005 at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 28 days. Survivors: Her beloved companion George Waidley Sr. of Lakeview, Arkansas; three daughters, Robyn (William) Spaman of Houston, Texas, Patricia (Gerald) Valenzano of Harlengin, Texas, and Holly (Ron) Hill of Ft. Meyers, Florida; one stepson, Gordon Thilmont Jr. of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Kenneth (Willadean) Thiery, Rachel Klein (fiance Sam Huntington), Carl (Tawney) Valenzano, and Annette (Thomas) Goble; and five great-grandchildren Preceded in Death by: Her parents, husband and four sisters Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2005 at Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home in Mountain Home, Arkansas Funeral: 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2005 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with Reverend Pam Morgan officiating Burial: Burial with military honors by Hoevel-Barnett VFW Post #1341 Honor Guard will be in Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery with a reception following at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
