Dorothy Jean (Larsen) Florie, 82, of Pittsburg, KS passed away Wednesday, November 24, at 12:45 P.M. in Pittsburg. She was born March 30, 1928, in Tuckerman, AR, to Carl and Willie (Johnson) Larsen. Jean grew up in Batesville, AR and graduated from Batesville High School in 1946. She attended Arkansas College, but left in 1947 to marry the love of her life, George Florie. Then the fun began!. Together they raised six children in a home full of laughter and love in Macomb, Illinois. Her family was her pride and joy. In Macomb she worked at NTN Bower Roller Bearing, retiring after over 30 years. Upon retirement, she and George moved to Mountain Home, AR, then Cave City, AR. In 2003 Jean moved to Pittsburg, KS to be closer to family. Shortly thereafter, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Music, gardening, birds and her precious dog, Buddy, were her great loves. A a child, she played the trumpet in a family band, the "Larsen Kiddie Band", consisting of Jean and her 4 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her six children, Mike Florie (Yvonne) of Greer, SC, Marty Florie (Ann) of Overland Park, KS, Steve Florie (Marilyn) of Eureka, IL, Terry Florie of Garland, TX, Sandy Florie Linder (Ron) of Allen, TX and Kelly Florie of Pittsburg, KS; 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Her sister, Louise Abbott, of Park Rapids, MN, also survives. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Florie; her parents, Carl and Willie Larsen; her brother, Bud Larsen and 2 sisters, Lola Stettler and Grace Dobson. At her request, cremation rites have been accorded.
A graveside service and burial will be held at a later date in Keokuk, Iowa. She will be sorely missed.
