A memorial service for Duane Lee Hobbie of Minneapolis, MN and Bull Shoals, AR will be at 11AM Thursday, December 30, 2010. It will be held at Faith EV Lutheran Church of Minneapolis, Minnesota with Reverend Dean Gade officiating. Family will receive friends from 10AM until time of service. Burial will be private at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Duane passed away Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Twin Lakes Nursing Center in Flippin, AR . He is finally at peace after a long 50-year battle with Basal Cell Carcinoma. He was 77 years old.
Duane was born March 6, 1933 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Harold and Meta (Muggenburg) Hobbie. He was married to Joan Culver for 49 years. Duane worked for Northwest Airlines for 43 years as an Inventory Controller, and was a proud union member. He will be remembered for his quiet, dry sense of humor, his thorough scrutiny of the daily paper, as well as his armchair coaching and passionate display of enthusiasm and joy for Minnesota sports including: hockey, football and baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; two daughters, Dawn (Doug) Hamernik of Frederick, Maryland and Jocelyn (Rick) Gray of Seward, Nebraska; brother, Keith (Mary Jo) Hobbie of Webster, Wisconsin; mother-in-law, Jean Culver of Bull Shoals, Arkansas; grandchildren, Amy Hamernik (fiancé` Adam Williams), Christopher Hamernik, Rebecca Hamernik, Cole Gray, Jakob Gray: nephews, Kevin (Jody) Hobbie and Marc (Lisa) Hobbie: two great- nieces and one great-nephew; and special friends Larry and Kay Schultz, Ron and Rayla Lundquist, Fred and Jan Schuller and his four-legged companion Nikki.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents: Harold and Meta (Muggenburg) Hobbie, father-in-law Richard Culver, Sr. and his brother-in-law, Richard Culver, Jr.
