A Memorial Mass for Edward Glennon Hays of Mountain Home, AR, will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with Reverend Stan Swiderski officiating.
Edward Hays died Friday, August 21, 2009 in Mountain Home at the age of 78. He was born Wednesday, September 17, 1930 in Monroe City, Missouri, the son of William Alton and Effie Lena Beals Hays. Ed attended grade school at St Columbans in Chillocothe, Missouri and was recuited into the U.S. Army by his older brother Sergeant Robert Hays, fulfilled his High School Education and was soon sent to Korea. Ed was a Prisoner of the Korean War for three and a half years and in 2008 recieved a Purple Heart for his service and sacrifice. He attributed his survival to his faith in God. He married Donelda Roberge on September 2, 1989 at Sierra Vista, Arizona and owned a successful Glass Company in California for 22 years. Edward lived in Mountain Home since 2005 moving from Lancaster California and was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and the B.P.O. Elks. His passion was in his Church and Family, His life was full of devotion to the needs of others. He had a love for music and singing, entertained his family and friends with the beautiful sound of his voice. His friends were many and he was loved by all. Ed will be truly missed.
Edward Hays is survived by his wife, Donelda Hays and one Son, Glenn (Kimberly) Hays of Blue Springs, Missouri, 4 Daughters, Sherri (Grayden) Paul of Beaufort, N.C., Catherine (David) Spellmeyer of Lancaster, California, Cindy (Kevin) Piper and Nancy (Randy) Tuinstra of both Saugus, California, 12 Grandchildren, Ami Lynne Paul, Lacy Walker, Libby Walker, Amber Hays, Hanna Spellmeyer, Sean Spellmeyer, Erin Spellmeyer, Kaelee Piper, Brett Piper, Tyler Piper, Matthew Tuinstra, Megan Tuinstra, one great granddaughter, Renada Garrett, 2 Brothers, Everett Joseph (Jack) Hays of Woffard Heights, California, and William Alton (Jan) Hays of Tamworth, Australia, 3 Sisters, Elizabeth Louise (Marvin) Nichols of Portland, Oregon, Bernadine (Joseph) Nichols of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Dorothy Jeanette (Don) Thompson of Yuma, Arizona, one God son, Timothy Doerr of Lancaster, California, one God Daughter, Cindy (Nichols) Purkey and his friend and apprentice, Steve (Traci) Hogan of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Ed's beloved dogs Archie and Becky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Burial will be in Newhall California.
Memorials may be made to the St. Judes Children's Hospital.
