Elaine E Kokes of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away January 6, 2024, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 85. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 15, 1938 to Charles and Eleanor Westerland Goettsche. She met Alan Kokes roller skating and they were married a year later on May 21, 1960. Elaine worked for Allstate Insurance in their driver education and safety department for 12 years. The couple decided to move to Florida along with her parents who had purchased a duplex in Ft. Lauderdale. Elaine was about to quit when her HR director offered her an position in a local insurance office in the commercial department if she was interested. The company Alan worked for was moving to Mobile, Alabama and he wasn't interested in going there, so her transfer was a God-send and allowed him to find work in Florida.
Elaine spent the next 35 years working in various agencies after 20 years of being with Allstate. She retired in December of 2003 and wanted to move to Mountain Home, Arkansas then, but Alan wasn't ready to leave Florida. Instead, the couple moved to Leesburg, Florida and after three hurricanes that came through that area in 2004, Alan was ready to go. They moved to Mountain Home on February 17, 2005 with her mother, as her dad had already passed. She was glad to have four seasons back again, and her mother was thrilled to get out of the heat.
Elaine was an active member of Twin Lakes Baptist Church, and served as the church librarian, played in the bell choir, and was on volleyball for seniors team.
She is survived by one cousin Jacqueline Ehle of Crystal River, CA; a step-cousin, Dolores Hanlon of McHenry, IL; and her godson, Kevin Little (Miriam) of St. Petersburg, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life for Elaine will be 10:00 am, Friday, January 12, 2024, at Twin Lakes Baptist Church, with Pastor Bill Hughes officiating. Entombment will be private.
