Elizabeth Bryant

Elizabeth M. (Betty) Bryant died at Baxter Regional Medical Center on August 4, 2011.

Daughter of Maude Munson and John Miller McLaughlin, Sr., she was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 3, 1915. After graduating from Mount Union College, she earned a graduate degree in Library Science from The Carnegie Institute of Technology. The following year, 1938, she and Frank M. Bryant were married on August 27th in Pittsburgh, PA. They had two sons, Frank M. (Chip) Bryant, Jr. and John Munson Bryant.

By the time Frank and Betty retired from The Bishop?s School, La Jolla, CA in 1979, they had been on the faculties of both public and independent schools in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana and California.

Moving to Lakeview in 1980, Betty traveled, played bridge, joined the Friends of Baxter County Library and became a Pink Lady at the hospital, where she organized the medical library. When her granddaughter started school, Betty became a ?Reading Grandma? in Della Ruth Herron?s first grade classes for five years before transferring to the library. Later activities were as Grandma Betty at Mother?s Day Out and with Hospice of the Ozarks.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Chip and John, brothers John M. and Sam M. McLaughlin, Betty is survived by her granddaughter Elizabeth and three great grandchildren, Mariah, Brayden, and Gabriel Martinez, and many beloved members of her family.

A ?Celebration of Her Life? will be held at the Baxter County Library on September 11th with a gathering of friends and family from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. and a time of sharing beginning at 2:00 P.M.

Burial will be in Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be made to Baxter County Library or Hospice of the Ozarks.
