The life of Elizabeth (Betty) Tomanek Fashing, of Bull Shoals, will be celebrated at Bethel Baptist Church in Lakeview, Arkansas at 11 am Saturday, June 27th, 2015.
Betty was born February 20th, 1918, and died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, June 22nd, 2015, in her home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 77 years, Louis R Fashing of Bull Shoals, her daughters, Nancy (Earl) Veits, and Constance (Jack) Binder, six grandchildren: Cathy, Laurie, Kimberly, Wendy, Karen and John, and eight great grandchildren. Her 3 sisters preceded her in death.
Betty was born in Avon Lake, Ohio. She and Lou raised their family there, then moved to Florida. They ran Lou and Ted's Fish Camp in Okeechobee, Florida, for many years. They moved in the late 60's to California before moving to Bull Shoals in 1980.
During the war Betty worked in the Boeing Aircraft plant in Ohio as a riveter in construction of the Boeing B-series bombers. She was a wonderful homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had a beautiful smile, and made friends easily.
She was a fantastic cook, an avid fisherman who caught a 5.25 lb rainbow trout, trolling, even though Grampa didn't think she would catch anything !! They baked him.
She loved to swim and golf. In her later years she perfected her unique swing, a perfect figure eight, while wii bowling. She loved flowers, took such pride in her garden, and even once won garden-of-the-week. She loved to sit and gaze at the wonder that surrounded her.
She was also a wonderful poet. She could express her emotions so beautifully. The poems ranged from religious to humorous to political. Lou remarked that she was a powerful Republican! We will miss her greatly.
