Elouise Elizabeth Caruthers, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2018, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She was born in Grayville, Illinois, to Jerald Clifton and Carolyn Hope Schmittler on September 9, 1933. She married Charles Clayton Smith on January 14, 1951 and they had four children, Cathy (Johnny) Miller, Patricia (Donald) Sanders, Kim (Gena) Smith and Christopher Smith. She also had eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two brothers, Fred and John Schmittler. She retired from the ASCS Office in Salem, Arkansas.
On March 14, 1980, she married James "Max" Caruthers in Salem, Arkansas, and had over 31 years of happiness. He brought two children to the family, James Caruthers and Jerys (Brian) Thrope. Max and Elouise moved to Mountain Home in 1993. They were members of the First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home. She especially loved to paint and write poetry. She also enjoyed reading, flowers, and taking photos.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; infant daughter, Lynna Jo and a sister, Marietta Schmittler.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 28, 2018, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will be 10:00 am, Monday, January 29, 2018, at First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home, with Reverend Heather Clawitter officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery, Salem, Arkansas.
