A funeral service for Ethel K. Bender of Mendota, Illinois, will be 11:00 am, Friday, March 20, 2015 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jim Keyes officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service.
Ethel passed away March 16, 2015, in Mendota, Illinois at the age of 97. She was born October 19, 1917, in Bloomingdale, Illinois, the daughter of William and Amanda Leiseberg Kroeger. She married Allen Bender on September 6, 1939, in Bloomingdale, Illinois and was a school custodian, grocery store cashier and homemaker. Ethel lived in Gamaliel, Arkansas for over 30 years before moving to Mountain Home and then back to Illinois in 2011, to be near family. She was a former member of the One-O-One Presbyterian Church and enjoyed quilting, solitaire, the lake and spending time with her family.
Ethel is survived by her son, John A. Bender of Wheaton, IL; daughter, Beverly B. Scharlau (Donald) of Utica, Illinois; three granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and a niece and nephew who will all treasure their special quilts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.
Burial will be in the Kirby’s Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Memorials may be made to One-O-One Presbyterian Church or the ALS Association.
Arrangements are by Kirby and Family Funeral and Cremation Services.
