September 23, 1938-November 8, 2016
“A great life isn’t about huge things, but it’s about small things that make a big difference.”
Evan Maurice Mollenkopf was born September 23, 1938 in Convoy, Ohio, the son of Robert Bruce and Lessie Jones Mollenkopf, a hard-working farm family. In the 1950’s, they moved to Elkhart, Indiana in order for Bruce and Lessie to take jobs in the school system. Both parents valued education highly, and all three of their children graduated college with advanced degrees. Sister, Nancy became a registered nurse, and sister, Peggy a teacher. Evan was also a teacher of science and history at Howe High School in Indianapolis, but found his real talent and interest at Hill-Rom Industries, Batesville, Indiana, specializing in sales and marketing. Evan was a student of history, with a special emphasis on the Civil War period. He also enjoyed football, Sunday was his favorite day of the week. During Evan’s high school days, he dated another student during their senior year, and Sally finally consented to be his wife 40 years later. She said, “I had to think about it for awhile!” They moved to Mountain Home in 1998 in order to retire, build their dream house together, and enjoy their precious Scottie dogs, Maggie Sue and Bella Sue. Evan’s daughter, Michelle Mollenkopf, resides in Vincennes, Indiana, and his two step-sons, James McElvain and Jon McElvain live in southern California with their wives and four sons. In Mountain Home, Evan enjoyed his ties with the Twin Lakes Literacy Council, and also Twin Lakes Playhouse. No services are planned, and it is the sincere wish that Evan’s friends will remember him with a smile, and perhaps recall good times shared and enjoyed together.
