A Funeral Service for Evelyn Mae Wenzel of Gassville, Arkansas, will be 2:00 PM, Monday, October 31, 2016 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Kenneth Taglauer and Pastor Fred Hagemeier officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the funeral home.
Evelyn passed away October 26, 2016, in Gassville, Arkansas at the age of 93. She was born May 13, 1923, in Manilla, Iowa, the daughter of William and Rena Corey Gessmann. She married Philip Wenzel on May 23, 1943, at Manilla, Iowa and they farmed near Westside, Iowa until moving to Mountain Home in 1992. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Golden Aires Group, Tuesday Morning Bible Study and Kitchen Band. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, traveling and spending time with her family.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Philip (Darlene) Wenzel of Sumner, WA; daughter, Susan (David) Nixon of Mountain Home, AR; son, Paul (Cathy) Wenzel of Pinson, AL; daughter, Sylvia (Larry) Uhl of Merrill, IA; son-in-law, John Derby of Sioux City, IA; ten grandchildren, Mikel, Shayne, Christopher, Angela, Jason, Scott, Nikki, Erica, Sarah and Megan; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Sandra Derby; four sisters, Mildred McLaren, Marjorie Smith, Thelma Hanssen and Hazel Volquartsen and one brother, William Gessmann.
Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas with Mikel and Shayne Derby, Christopher Wenzel, Angela Worhatch, Jason and Scott Nixon as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Nikki Clemmons, Erica Cooper, Sarah Riley and Megan Uhl.
Memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour.
