Services for Francis Gene Garr of Mountain Home, Arkansas will be private. Francis died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Gassville Nursing Center, at the age of 82. He was born September 30, 1927 in Chula, Missouri, the son of Reginald Richard and Florence Coburn Garr. He married Marjorie Williams on December 21, 1985 at Naperville, Illinois and worked as a Estimator for Burlington Northern Rail Road. Francis Garr was a U.S. Navy veteran. Francis lived in Mountain Home, Arkansas since 1987 moving from Woodridge, Illinois. During his retirement, Gene was editor of the Baxter County Historical Society and Genealogical Society Quarterly. He wrote and published Genealogy books, such as a "Of Grave Importance" (Graves in Baxter County). He assisted in building the Historical Village in Cooper Park and was a member of the Cloverleaf and the Twirling Funtimers. Francis is survived by his wife, Marjorie, 2 sons, Roger (Karen) Garr of Odell, IL and Robert (Lisa) Garr of Brookfield, IL; 2 daughters, Gail (John) Winters of Wheaton, IL and Ginger (Jens Jantzen) Gebhardt of Phoenix, AZ; 1 step-son, Mark (Cathy) Jones of Warrenville, IL; 1 brother, James Garr of Trout Creek, MT; 2 sisters, Joyce (John) Clark of Saint Louis, MO, Florence Mershon of San Diego, CA; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Adeline Mildred Garr, brother, Reginald Richard Garr, Jr. and sister, Alice Faye Garr. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
