Frank Carrold Messick

August 18, 1950 — August 27, 2018

Frank C. Messick passed away August 27, 2018, in Pontiac, Missouri at the age of 68. He was born August 18, 1950, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, the son of Frank and Viola Spencer Messick. He married Cindy Hall in 1982, in Mountain Home and was a master carpenter, working all over the United States. Some of his work on the West Coast was featured in magazines. He built custom high end homes and did restoration work.

Frank was a U.S. Army veteran, serving 11 years during the Vietnam era. His original MOS was heavy equipment instructor, but after a hearing loss, he served the last nine years in army intelligence accounting, as a manager. He was an avid fisherman, especially bass fishing on Bull Shoals. "You don't have to catch fish to have a great fishing trip." He was an excellent guitar player.

Frank was diagnosed with clear cell renal cancer in 2012, after it had metastasized to his brain and was only given six months to live. He beat the odds and survived. In August 2017, he was cancer free, but after his six month check up in March 2018, his cancer had returned with a vengeance in his brain and spine. He underwent surgery and radiation for the brain tumors but complications and an infection set in, which his body was not able to overcome.

Frank is survived by his wife, Cindy Messick of Pontiac, MO; son, Jeff Messick of Renton, WA; daughter, Stacie (Tim) Frank of Pasco, WA; son, John (Melissa) Nehr of New Brighton, PA; son by marriage, Ted (Jody) Russell of Dora, MO; grandchildren, Rusty Russell, Kaylee, Eben and Gavin Frank, Jackson and Paisley Nehr, and Joely (Edgar) Russell Smith; great-grandson, EJ Smith; two brothers, Leon Messick of Gainesville, MO, and Dean Messick of Carthage, MO; brother-in-law, Jeff (Suzy) Hall of Lady Lake, FL; and sister-in-law, Elaine Messick of Hoquiam, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Manuel and Dallas Messick; brother-in-law, Stephen Hall; and sister-in-law, Lynda Hall Nocks.
