Frederick "Pete” Arthur Johnson, III, born on April 7 1947, peacefully passed away on October 2, 2024, at his home. He leaves behind a legacy defined by love, laughter, cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. He was born April 7, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the only child of Fredrick Arthur and Barbara Purdy Johnson. He married Dorothy Keller on July 14, 1984 in Anchorage, Alaska. He was raised in Midland TX, attended Texas A&M and New Mexico Military Institute. In high school, he played football against Tommy Lee Jones, George W. Bush, Larry Gatlin and his brothers. He began his work in the mid 70’s with the Exxon Corporation setting up their initial drilling facility where he spent over 30 years in the Artic Circle. Pete lived in the Mountain Home area since moving from Denver, Colorado in 1997.
Pete is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Krysta (Richard) Johnson of Bremerton WA, Tanya Snover and Lela (Jeremy) Raymond of Ketchikan AK, Kathy(Dan) Vest of Eagle River AK; son, William Herren of Mountain Home AR, 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and daughter Carolyn Malcolm.
His personality shone brightly through his love for fishing, football, playing the piano, and indulging in classic old western movies. With his since of humor, warm spirit and infectious smile he brought joy into every moment he shared. As friends and family would attest, "If you knew Pete, you loved Pete." His oldest grandson had this to say to him, “You were one of, if not the most influential men in my life and I owe a lot of who I am today, to you.” Another said, “You were the best man a grandson could ever look up to.”
As we remember Frederick "Pete" Johnson III, we honor a man whose life was a testament to kindness, generosity, and a love for the simple pleasures in life. His spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him, reminding us to cherish each day and the connections we forge along the way.
A visitation will be held at 12:00 pm with a Celebration of Life to begin at 1:00 at Twin Lakes Baptist Church on Monday, October 28, 2024 with Pastor Sam Bailey officiating.
