A Funeral Service for Garland Smith of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 2:00 pm, Monday, October 7, 2013, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jon Gilbert officiating. Visitation will be Monday, October 7, 2013 from 1:00 pm until service time at the funeral home.
Garland passed away October 4, 2013, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 92. He was born February 10, 1921, in Cash, Arkansas, the son of Andrew and Luella Tudor Smith. He worked as a Locomotive Engineer for Norfolk & Western Railroad. Garland was a U.S. navy veteran. Garland lived in Mountain Home since 1981, moving from St. Louis, Missouri. He enjoyed playing the piano and was a licensed piano tuner.
Garland is survived by his four nieces; Gail (Thomas) Adams of Libertyville, IL; Marilyn (Robert) Kapic of Washington, MO; Joyce Prokopf of Arnold, MO and Beverly (Kenneth) Riley of Robertsville, MO and one nephew, Dennis (Clair) Smith of Lakeland, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Margaret O'Donnell, and two brothers; Edward and Earl Smith.
Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas, with Thomas Adams, Kenneth Riley, Robert Kapic and Jack Hickman as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozark Hospice House.
