Gary Leon Arwood, a respected community member and beloved family man, passed away on February 26, 2025, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, at the age of 80. Born on November 7, 1944, in Caruthersville, Missouri, to Sherman and Edna Evert Arwood. Gary lived a life marked by service, commitment, and a deep dedication to his family and community.


A proud veteran, Gary joined the U.S. Army and served with honor during both the Vietnam and Gulf War eras, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1993. His military service was a point of pride in his life, shaping not only his character but also his contributions to his community.


Gary's career path reflected his strong work ethic. He moved to Arkansas where he founded Arwood Electric, showcasing his skills as a Master Electrician. His service extended beyond his profession; he was elected as a Baxter County Constable and than became a Baxter County Sheriff's Deputy and also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Clarkridge Fire Department. These roles earned him great respect among his peers and constituents, solidifying a legacy of dedication to public service.


He was an avid flier and a certified dive master, demonstrating a zest for life that inspired those around him. Additionally, he was involved with the Blue Knights and the Elks Lodge, where his camaraderie and community spirit flourished.


Gary is remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for the profound love he shared with his family. He was the proud father of three sons-Gary, Tim, and David-and a stepfather to Kevin and Karen Keith. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Nathan, David, Colin, Shane, and Cameron Arwood, along with great-grandchild Linda Arwood. Married to Linda Hartgraves for 40 years, Gary cherished the life they built together and the family they raised, embodying the qualities of a devoted husband and father.


He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda; brother, Jessie Arwood, and sister, Pat Arwood. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.


A visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Kirby & Family Funeral Home in Mountain Home, Arkansas. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 10:00 AM with military honors provided by the United States Army and Alley-White American Legion Post #52 Honor Guards.
