George Nowakowski

George Nowakowski died Monday, June 22, 2009 in Mountain Home at the age of 87. He was born Wednesday, August 24, 1921 in Evanston, Illinois, the son of Louis J. and Gertrude Ann Brehm Nowakowski. He married Kathleen Carey on May 8, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio and after she passed away he married Charlotte Wind Kussmann on November 30, 1991 at Mountain Home, Arkansas. He worked as a Police Officer for the City of Chicago and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. George lived in Mountain Home since 1975 moving from Chicago, Illinois and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago Lodge #7, Ozark VFW Post #3246, Holy Name Society, 101/Gamaliel Fire Dept., Illinois Police Association, a charter member of the Twin Lakes Retired Police Officer's Scholarship Foundation and a Baxter County Reserve Deputy. Survivors: George Nowakowski is survived by his wife, Charlotte Nowakowski of Mountain Home, one son, Richard (Marlene) C. Nowakowski of Chicago, Illinois, 2 grandchildren, Angela Nowakowski of Mountain Home, AR, and Kimberly Nowakowski of Chicago, IL, 2 great grandchildren, Skyler Nowakowski and Adrian Gonzalez, 4 step-sons, Jerome (Ying) Kussmann of Huntington Beach, CA, Edward (Nadia) Kussmann of Waukesha, WI, Charles Kussmann of Mountain Home, AR, and Eugene (Victoria) Kussmann of Wauconda, IL. Preceded in Death by: He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathleen and one son Thomas. Visitation: Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at the Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral: A funeral mass for George F. Nowakowski of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 10:00 A. M. Friday, June 26, 2009 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, with Reverend James Fanrak officiating. Burial: Burial will be in the Maynard Bend Cemetery, Gamaliel, Arkansas. Memorials: Memorials may be made to the St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church. Honorary Bearers: Twin Lakes Retired Police Officer's Scholarship Foundation members as honorary pallbearers. Active Bearers: Larry Krause, Jim Mandock, Russ Weingart, Mickey Doyle, Wally Smietanski and Bruce Powell serving as pallbearers. Additional Notes: Military Honors provided by Ozark V.F.W. Post #3246 Honor Guard.
