Visitation for George Calvin Wheat of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be Monday, July 29, 2013, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Kirby and Family Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at a later date at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
George passed away July 25, 2013, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 87. Mr. Wheat was a man of high moral character and integrity, steadfast in all ways.
George was born April 28, 1926, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to George and Pauline Wheat. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa. He enjoyed a long and successful career in the oil industry starting in 1945, with Skelly Oil Company in Tulsa, retiring in 1985. He worked in El Dorado, Kansas, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Houston, Texas and served three years with Skelly subsidiary Tong Suh Petrochemical Corp. in Seoul, Korea 1973-1975. Marilyn and George Wheat retired to Mountain Home, Arkansas, April 1986 and are members of the First Presbyterian Church.
George served his country stateside in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Patmos Lodge No 97 AF & AM at El Dorado, Kansas and Tulsa Scottish Rite and Akdar Shrine Temple.
George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marilyn Wheat of Mountain Home, AR, nephew, Paul Calvin Wheat of Fort Smith, AR, 2 nieces, Nancy Sue Paschal of Little Elm, TX and Sandy Kaye Burrus of Little Elm, TX, 2 great-nieces, Lisa (Mike and son, Evan) Gaines of Frisco, TX and Barbara (Charles and daughter Ellory) Smith of Dallas, TX and sister-in-law, Margaret Park of Mountain Home, AR.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 15 years, Nancy Jane Kaufman Wheat; brother, Paul Garfield Wheat; sister, Eunice Wheat Ranch; great-nephew, Charles Evans and great-niece, Catherine Evans.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House or First Presbyterian Church.
