Georgia Marie Hester Vowell was born June 27th, 1935 in DeQuincy, Louisiana. She grew up in Louisiana and loved playing basketball and participating in school plays. In her adult years she developed a love for country music and dancing. She could boot-scoot with the best of them. Even in her last year of dementia, she could be found dancing with the other residents and staff in her nursing home. She was a caretaker to many, including residents at the Springwood Apartments in Hardy, Arkansas. She was an avid bird watcher, loved all things angels, and could grow any type of flower. Above all, she loved her family and enjoyed making her house a ‘home’ wherever she was.
Georgia is survived by her three daughters: Tresha Bowen, Leasha Farris, and Robin (Tony) Hill, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two brothers (Bob Hester & Earnest Hester) and two sisters (Angeline Havens and Christine Longoria).
Georgia passed away peacefully on April 19th, 2022 in Searcy, Arkansas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Alspaugh, her sister Margie Longoria, and her parents Clifford and Lucy Hester.
Georgia was an extremely strong woman who survived many tragedies in her lifetime. Through multiple losses and an independent spirit, she developed grit and fortitude and taught all of her kids to be survivors. She was a force to be reckoned with at times and loved fiercely. She will be greatly missed but her fighting spirit will live on in her family.
A Graveside Service for Georgia was held Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Custer-Herron Cemetery.
