A Celebration of Life for Gilbert Garcia of Bull Shoals, Arkansas, will be 10:00 am, Monday, March 24, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Bull Shoals, with Brother Jerry Backus officiating.
Gilbert passed away March 21, 2014, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 88. He was born April 10, 1925, in Cotulla, Texas, the son of Juan and Angelita Viesces Garcia. He worked as a Security Guard for Morton Salt Company. Gilbert was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Gilbert lived in Bull Shoals, since moving from Woodstock, Illinois. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bull Shoals and married Genevieve Carlburg-Black on August 2, 1994, at Bull Shoals, Arkansas. After Gilbert retired from Morton Salt Company and moved to Arkansas, he went to work at the Gassville Nursing Center, where he worked for 18 years. He enjoyed visiting over coffee and going for rides with Genevieve.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Genevieve Garcia of Bull Shoals, AR, two sons, John (Stephanie) Garcia of Fox River Grove, IL, and Michael (Jeannie Powada) Garcia of Caruthersville, MO; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Scott) Chenevey, Suzanna (Luke) Morris, Elizabeth Cheek-Taylor, Emily Garcia, Steven Garcia, Danielle (Mario) Draffkorn, and Paul Pena; and four great-grandchildren, Addison Taylor, Erika Chenevey, Will Morris, and Jaiden Nunez.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Thelma Garcia; daughter, Sue Cheek; and all of his brothers and sisters.
