Harley "Buck" Brown was born January 19, 1918 in Gilbert, Arkansas to Willie Arvil and Mainie Lee "Watts" Brown. He grew up on Tomahawk Creek and Buffalo River in Searcy County fishing and hunting during the depression. They played for dances in a cave, parties and honky tonks. He and his brother, Audie hitched rides on trains to thrash wheat in Kansas. While in Kansas, they recorded an album. Harley served in World War II in San Diego where he met his wife Velma Irene McLaughlin who was working as a "Rosie the Riveter" at the defense plant. They were married July 11, 1942 at Yuma, Arizona. He owned and operated Brown's Mobile Homes in Mountain Home.
