Howard M. Prichard Jr, 90, of Flippin, AR passed away peacefully February 25, 2009 at the Hospice House in Mountain Home, AR. He was born in Rumson, New Jersey in 1918, the son of the late Howard and Martha Prichard. The second oldest of five siblings, Howard enjoyed sports and music in his youth. He starred for the Varsity football and baseball teams in high school and was a Golden Glove boxer. Howard also played a variety of musical instruments for the high school band and several local bands. His interest in sports and music continued when he moved to Arkansas, competing in the Flippin softball league and playing clarinet and saxaphone for the Mountain Home Area Community Orchestra. He also tutored music lessons for Flippin youth. Howard entered the service of the U.S. Army Signal Corps and the US Rangers before World War II and served in the North African, Sicilian, and Italian campaigns. During a hospital stay back in the States, he met his future wife, Anna M. Parsons, who was a US Army Nurse during the war. He married Anna on May 23, 1945 in Crawford, Nebraska, and they had four sons. Howard was employed as a telephone lineman throughout most of his career. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Flippin. Howard was much loved and will be missed by his family and friends. Survivors: Howard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna M. Prichard of Flippin; sister Louise Hughes of New Holland, PA; sons Raymond (Deborah) Prichard of Charles Town, WV, J. Douglas Prichard of Garland, TX, and David (Lily Mak) Prichard of Dallas, TX; daughter-in-law Dr. Patricia Harrop; two grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer (Jim) Prichard of St. Paul, MN and Andrea Prichard of Knoxville, TN. Preceded in Death by: He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Jennie Belle Huggins; brothers Glenn and Allynn; and his eldest son, Howard M. Prichard III. Visitation: Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at Kirby and Family Funeral Home. Funeral: Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Kirby and Family Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jack Jefferson officiating. Burial: Burial will be in the Willow Spring Cemetery, Willow Springs, MO. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House.
