Hylan Mitchell

August 30, 1926 — December 24, 2005

Hylan Gary Mitchell was born August 30, 1926 in Fairmont, North Carolina. He was the son of Durham and Cora Andrews Mitchell. He married Edith Bugg on December 15, 1950 in Forsyth, Georgia. He was a funeral director and mortician in the greater Atlanta area for over forty years, and spent the last twenty years with Lowndes & McLane in Atlanta. Mr. Mitchell served with the United States Army during World War II. He lived in Mountain Home, Arkansas since moving from Atlanta, Georgia in 1993. He was ordained as a deacon on August 25, 1957 at Fairburn Baptist Church in Fairburn, Georgia and served various Baptist churches, including First Baptist Church in Mountain Home, for the next forty-five years. He was a Sunday school teacher and sang bass in church choirs and various men's quartets. He greatly enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren, however; most of all, he enjoyed serving the Lord. Hylan Gary Mitchell passed away at his residence, December 24, 2005, at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 24 days. Survivors: His wife of fifty-five years, Edith Mitchell of Mountain Home, Arkansas; daughter, Carol (Frank) Miller of Gainesville, Missouri; brother, Dr. James V.
